Why this fundraiser matters
My name is André Bartolomeu, an Angolan technology and project management professional with strong personal and professional ties to Namibia. I hold a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, an MBA/Postgraduate qualification in Project Management, and the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Over the years, I have built my career across information technology, cybersecurity, digital transformation, infrastructure and project management, while also contributing to professional development and leadership initiatives.
I am now preparing for one of the most important academic journeys of my life: pursuing doctoral studies at the University of Cape Town (UCT) Graduate School of Business, subject to the University’s formal admission process.
My proposed doctoral research will explore Digital Transformation, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Project Governance, with particular interest in how African organisations can develop the capabilities needed to successfully manage complex technology transformation.
For me, completing a PhD is not simply about earning another qualification.
My long-term goal is to combine professional leadership, research and higher education. I want to contribute to the development of future African technology and project management professionals, teach at university level, publish relevant research, and help organisations across Angola, Namibia and Southern Africa successfully navigate digital transformation.
I currently also serve in a technology leadership role within the PMI Angola Chapter. This experience has strengthened my conviction that Africa needs more professionals capable of connecting technology, cybersecurity, governance, project management and organisational leadership.
However, undertaking an international doctoral programme represents a significant financial commitment.
I am therefore seeking to raise AOA 29,000,000 to help finance the estimated three-year doctoral journey. The funds will support university tuition and academic fees, international student-related costs, travel to Cape Town for required academic activities, accommodation during academic stays, research and data collection, academic publications and conferences, software and research resources, visa and documentation costs, and a reasonable contingency for exchange-rate and travel-cost fluctuations.
Every contribution, regardless of its size, will bring me one step closer to this goal.
I am committed to transparency and accountability throughout this journey. I intend to provide supporters with updates on major milestones, including the admission and registration process, research progress and important academic achievements. Where appropriate, supporting academic documentation will also be provided to strengthen the transparency of the campaign.
This journey is bigger than one degree. I see it as an investment in knowledge that can be returned to society through teaching, mentorship, research, technology leadership and the development of African professionals and organisations.
If you are able to contribute, I would be deeply grateful for your support. If you cannot contribute financially, sharing this campaign with your professional network, friends, organisations or institutions can make an equally meaningful difference.
Thank you for believing in education, African research and the transformative power of knowledge.
André Bartolomeu
