This Privacy Policy explains how Crowdfundme.Africa handles personal information when you visit the website, create an account, start or support a fundraiser, complete verification, communicate with us or use other platform features.
1. Information we collect
Depending on how you use the platform, we may collect account information such as your name, email address, phone number, country, profile information, account type and security settings; fundraiser information such as campaign stories, media, beneficiary relationships and updates; and transaction-related information such as payment references, donation currency, payout status and provider metadata.
Where verification is required, we may collect or receive identity, organisation, beneficiary, address, liveness, bank-account or related verification information. Sensitive verification documents are intended to remain private unless you explicitly choose to publish a document that is suitable for public display.
2. Device, security and usage data
We may process IP-derived security information, browser and device information, login/session events, saved-device identifiers, fraud/risk signals, referral information, campaign views and other operational data needed to secure and improve the platform. For anonymous visitors, Crowdfundme.Africa may also use a locally stored MaxMind GeoLite2 Country database to derive an approximate country code from the request IP for currency and payment-country suggestions. This country signal is not identity, nationality, residence or KYC evidence, and the visitor can change the payment country at checkout. The GeoIP module does not retain the raw IP merely to remember the suggested currency. Security identifiers may be hashed or otherwise protected where appropriate. This product includes GeoLite Data created by MaxMind, available from maxmind.com.
3. How we use personal information
We use information to create and secure accounts; operate fundraising and donation features; verify identities, organisations and beneficiaries; process and reconcile payments and payouts; prevent fraud and abuse; deliver notifications and support; personalise currency and language experiences; provide campaign analytics; comply with legal obligations; and maintain platform integrity.
Where available, AI-assisted tools may process the text or instructions you choose to submit so the requested assistance can be generated. Do not submit unnecessary sensitive information to AI tools.
4. Legal bases where applicable
Where privacy law requires a legal basis, processing may rely on performance of a contract, steps requested before entering a contract, compliance with legal obligations, legitimate interests such as fraud prevention and platform security, or your consent for activities that require consent, such as certain marketing communications or non-essential cookies.
5. Public and private information
Public campaign pages may display information you intentionally publish, such as campaign title, story, goal, media, category, location at an appropriate level, organiser display information, verification status and campaign updates. Crowdfundme.Africa does not intend to publicly expose private identity documents, raw payout details, passwords, security tokens or other protected account data.
Actual amount raised is treated as private campaign-owner/admin financial information under the current Crowdfundme.Africa product rules. Public pages may display the campaign goal in a viewer-localised currency without exposing the private amount raised.
6. Payments and payouts
Payment and payout providers process financial transactions on our behalf. Crowdfundme.Africa does not store raw card numbers. We may receive transaction identifiers, status, currency, fees, settlement information, limited payer/payee details and other information required for reconciliation, refunds, disputes, chargebacks and payouts.
7. Verification and fraud-prevention providers
We may use approved identity, business, sanctions, fraud-prevention or risk providers where appropriate. Information sent to those providers is limited to what is needed for the relevant check and is also subject to the provider’s privacy terms.
8. Other service providers
We may use service providers for cloud infrastructure, email delivery, authentication, security, analytics, media hosting/processing, customer support and AI functionality. These providers may process information only as needed to provide their contracted services or as otherwise permitted by law.
9. Google and X sign-in
If you choose Google or X sign-in, we receive the limited profile information authorised through that provider and needed to identify or link your Crowdfundme.Africa account. We do not receive your Google or X password. X may not provide a verified email, in which case Crowdfundme.Africa may ask you to provide and verify one directly.
10. Cookies and similar technologies
Essential cookies are used for authentication, security, preferences and core site functionality. Analytics or marketing technologies will be controlled according to the consent choices and cookie settings made available on the platform where required.
11. Marketing and communication preferences
Transactional and security messages are separate from optional marketing communications. We do not automatically treat registration as consent to receive marketing. Where marketing consent is required, you can withdraw it or manage preferences using the controls provided.
12. How long we keep information
Retention depends on the type of information and why it is needed. Account and content data may be retained while your account is active. Financial, payout, fraud, verification, audit and legal records may need to be retained for longer periods even after account closure where required for compliance, dispute resolution, security or legitimate record-keeping.
13. Security
We use safeguards designed to protect information, including access controls, encryption for stored integration secrets, secure session handling, revocable trusted-device tokens, server-side authorisation, rate limiting, bot protection, audit logging and protected handling of sensitive documents. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
14. International processing
Crowdfundme.Africa is designed for users across Africa and the global diaspora. Information may therefore be processed or stored in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate contractual, technical or legal safeguards for international transfers.
15. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability or withdrawal of consent. Some requests may be limited by obligations to preserve financial, fraud-prevention, legal or security records. Identity verification may be required before completing a privacy request.
16. Children and vulnerable persons
Account holders must satisfy the platform’s eligibility requirements. Fundraisers may concern children or vulnerable people, but organisers must have an appropriate legal or legitimate basis to publish their information and should avoid sharing unnecessary sensitive details publicly.
17. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the platform, providers or legal requirements change. The current version and effective date will be published on this page, and material changes may be communicated where appropriate.
18. Contact us
Privacy questions or requests can be sent to info@crowdfundme.africa.
