HELP STREET ONE RADIO GROW: FROM ONLINE RADIO TO FM

Street One Radio began on 22 May 2015 from my love of radio broadcasting. After learning electronics and experimenting with a small FM transmitter, I moved to online radio to continue pursuing my dream responsibly. Today, Street One Radio is already on air, broadcasting from my home sleeping room. Feedback and messages from listeners who trust the station encourage me to keep going, but I lack the financial resources

The story

Why this fundraiser matters

‎HELP STREET ONE RADIO GROW: FROM ONLINE RADIO TO FM
‎
‎A Dream Born from Love for Radio — A Vision to Educate, Empower and Serve the Community
‎
‎My Story: A Dream That Began in 2015
‎
‎My name is Esau Jackson, and I am the founder of Street One Radio, based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
‎
‎My dream of owning a radio station began with a deep love for radio broadcasting. I have always believed that radio is more than entertainment. It can inform people, educate communities, discuss social challenges and give people a platform to be heard.
‎
‎On 22 May 2015, I took a step toward making that dream a reality. Through my interest in electronics and practical experimentation, I built a small, low-power FM transmitter that allowed me to broadcast within my neighbourhood. I did this because I genuinely loved radio and wanted to experience what it meant to bring broadcasting to people.
‎
‎Later, I came to understand that FM broadcasting must comply with applicable laws and regulatory requirements. I therefore had to reconsider that approach.
‎
‎But giving up on my dream was never what I wanted to do.
‎
‎Because my passion for radio remained strong, I looked for another way to continue. I moved from experimenting with local FM transmission to establishing an online radio station, which I named Street One Radio.
‎
‎Moving online was not the end of my FM dream. It was a way to keep that dream alive while working toward the possibility of establishing a properly authorised FM radio station in the future.
‎
‎Where Street One Radio Stands Today
‎
‎Street One Radio is already on air as an online radio station. At present, I operate it from my own home, broadcasting from the same room where I sleep.
‎
‎I have continued running the station with the limited resources available to me. I do not yet have a dedicated professional studio or all the equipment needed to develop the station to the standard I hope to achieve.
‎
‎Despite these limitations, I have not given up.
‎
‎The messages and feedback I receive from listeners who trust Street One Radio give me encouragement and strengthen my determination to keep going. Their words remind me that the station matters to people and motivate me to work toward improving it and reaching its full potential.
‎
‎However, passion and encouragement alone cannot provide the equipment, facilities and financial resources needed to grow. My greatest challenge is that I do not currently have the financial capacity or sufficient means to turn this long-standing dream into the larger broadcasting project I envision.
‎
‎That is why I am asking for support. Street One Radio is not simply an idea waiting to begin. It is an existing online radio operation that I have continued to run with what I have, and I now need help to take the next step.
‎
‎Why I Want to Establish an FM Radio Station
‎
‎My ambition is not simply to own a transmitter or put my name on a radio station. I want Street One Radio to become a useful platform for the community.
‎
‎Our communities face many challenges that deserve attention, discussion and practical solutions. I believe radio can help create a space where people can speak openly about these issues, listen to different perspectives and learn from one another.
‎
‎My long-term vision is for Street One Radio to develop programmes that:
‎
‎- Discuss community challenges through conversations, interviews and live programmes.
‎- Share educational information that helps people make informed decisions.
‎- Provide public health information and encourage people to seek appropriate professional guidance.
‎- Raise awareness of social issues and help bring important concerns to the attention of relevant organisations and authorities.
‎- Share useful information, opportunities and knowledge that can benefit listeners.
‎- Encourage constructive dialogue and help connect people with individuals or organisations that may be able to offer appropriate support.
‎
‎I understand that a radio station cannot solve every problem by itself. However, it can help people understand challenges, share knowledge, raise awareness and encourage positive action.
‎
‎I want Street One Radio to grow into a platform that does more than entertain: a platform that informs, educates, listens and contributes positively to society.
‎
‎Creating Future Employment Opportunities
‎
‎Another important part of this dream is the opportunity to create employment as Street One Radio grows.
‎
‎A properly developed radio operation can create opportunities for presenters, journalists, programme producers, audio technicians and other people whose skills are needed in broadcasting.
‎
‎I would like Street One Radio to grow into a project that gives talented people opportunities to develop their abilities, gain experience and potentially earn a living through their work.
‎
‎These are future ambitions that depend on the growth and sustainability of the station. I am sharing them because this dream is not only about personal ownership; it is also about what the station could eventually contribute to the community.
‎
‎Why We Are Fundraising Now
‎
‎Establishing a complete FM radio station requires several things: suitable premises, studio facilities, broadcasting equipment, a transmission site, technical planning, regulatory approvals and other costs.
‎
‎I recognise that these requirements cannot all be addressed through a single equipment purchase.
‎
‎For this reason, this fundraising campaign is an introductory phase focused on essential studio and transmission equipment. It is a practical step toward our larger goal, not a claim that we are already ready to begin FM broadcasting.
‎
‎The main equipment we are seeking includes:
‎
‎1. A 1,000-watt FM transmitter to form part of the planned transmission system, subject to technical suitability and the necessary authorisations.
‎2. A compact radio broadcasting mixer suitable for managing microphones and studio audio.
‎3. Four microphones for presenters, interviews and programme discussions.
‎4. An audio interface or suitable sound card to connect studio audio equipment to the computer and broadcasting system.
‎5. Studio monitor speakers to help monitor audio quality.
‎6. An FM audio processor to help prepare audio for the planned FM transmission system.
‎7. An appropriate antenna system, RF cable and connectors required for the planned transmission setup.
‎8. Shipping and equipment connection costs, subject to confirmation.
‎
‎The exact models, specifications, compatibility, supplier quotations and delivery costs will be checked before purchases are finalised. The fundraising budget will identify the estimated cost of each item so supporters can understand how the requested amount has been calculated.
‎
‎What This Fundraising Goal Covers
‎
‎The target for this campaign represents the estimated cost of the initial equipment phase only.
‎
‎It does not represent the full cost of establishing a complete FM station. Suitable premises, studio construction or preparation, a transmission site, a mast or tower where required, installation, licensing, frequency assignment and other regulatory or technical requirements will need further assessment and separate budgeting.
‎
‎The purchase of an FM transmitter does not, by itself, authorise broadcasting. Before an FM service begins, the relevant requirements must be confirmed with the appropriate authorities and fulfilled.
‎
‎I want to approach this process responsibly, with realistic expectations and clear priorities. As resources become available, the project can progress through the necessary stages.
‎
‎How You Can Support Street One Radio
‎
‎I welcome support in different forms, according to each person's ability and willingness to help.
‎
‎You may contribute financially toward the equipment budget, donate suitable working broadcasting equipment, or connect the project with individuals, businesses or organisations that may be interested in supporting its development.
‎
‎Support does not have to come from one person. Some people may be able to contribute a larger amount, while others may only be able to contribute a smaller amount. Suitable equipment donations can also help reduce the items that need to be purchased.
‎
‎If a supporter donates a microphone, mixer, transmitter or another required item, we will review the remaining needs and adjust our purchasing priorities accordingly.
‎
‎The final progress of the project will depend on the support received. If we raise less than the target, we will need to prioritise the most urgent needs. If we receive more support, or equipment is donated, we can assess how best to advance the project responsibly.
‎
‎I aim to communicate progress clearly and account for how funds and donated equipment contribute to the project.
‎
‎My Long-Term Dream
‎
‎For me, Street One Radio is the continuation of a dream that began with a love for broadcasting in 2015.
‎
‎I moved from experimenting with electronics and a small FM transmitter to online radio because I wanted to keep pursuing that dream in a more responsible way. Throughout this journey, my ambition has remained to work toward establishing a properly authorised FM station.
‎
‎I want to build something that can eventually provide useful information, educational programmes, meaningful discussions and opportunities for people who want to work in broadcasting.
‎
‎The road ahead requires resources, patience, planning and compliance with the relevant requirements. I know that the dream cannot be achieved overnight, but I believe meaningful progress can begin with practical steps.
‎
‎Help Us Take the Next Step
‎
‎Today, I am asking for support to help Street One Radio move from its current online operation toward the next stage of development.
‎
‎Your contribution, whether financial or in the form of suitable equipment, can help us work toward obtaining the essential equipment identified in this campaign.
‎
‎I am making this request because I have the passion and determination to continue, but I cannot afford to make this dream grow to the level I envision using my own resources alone.
‎
‎The encouragement I receive from listeners who trust Street One Radio gives me a reason to keep trying. I hope that people who believe in the value of radio will help us turn that encouragement into practical progress.
‎
‎This is not a promise that a fully operational FM station will appear immediately. It is an honest request for support toward a defined first stage of a larger dream.
‎
‎If you believe in the value of radio as a tool for education, community discussion, public information and future employment, I invite you to be part of this journey.
‎
‎Thank you for taking the time to read my story, understand the vision and consider supporting Street One Radio.
